The number of bed and breakfasts is increasing in all tourist destinations and it is difficult for the customer to know whether the service he or she is buying will be of high quality. The Tourist Offices and the other institutional actors of tourism, in a concern for the quality of the tourist offer, put forward the accommodations which respect the commitments of a reference frame and which have passed a control visit.
Unlike other types of tourist accommodation, there is no star rating for B&Bs in France.
To make up for this shortcoming, Atout France has set up the Chambre d’Hôtes Référence standard. This standard provides a framework for the bed and breakfast business and reassures the customer by guaranteeing the quality of services.
