Description: Broad beans are hardy legumes that produce large pods containing large seeds that are rich in protein and fibre. They are easy to grow and ideal for temperate climates such as Brittany.

Sowing: in the ground, in rows

Sowing advice :

  • Direct sowing in the open ground: sow in autumn (October-November) or spring (February-March), 1 seed every 15-20 cm, in rows 40-50 cm apart. Sow at a depth of 5-7 cm. Beans sown in autumn produce earlier harvests.

Historical origin of the variety: Broad beans have been cultivated for thousands of years, dating back to Antiquity. They were already eaten by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans.

Use: Broad beans can be eaten fresh, dried or frozen. They are used in a wide variety of dishes, including stews, soups and salads. They are also valued for their ability to enrich the soil with nitrogen thanks to their symbiotic relationship with nitrogen-fixing bacteria.
