Damask Nigella

Description : Damascus nigella, or Nigella damascena, is an annual plant native to Southern Europe and the Orient. It is prized for its delicate flowers and decorative seeds, which are used in cooking and traditional medicine.

Sowing advice :

  • Direct sowing in the ground: Sow the seeds on the surface of well-prepared soil after the last frosts, pressing them lightly into the soil. Water gently to keep the soil moist until germination.

Historical origin of the variety: Damascus nigella has been cultivated for centuries for its medicinal uses and as an ornamental plant. It was known to the ancient Greeks and Romans, and was introduced to Europe where it became popular in gardens.

Uses: Damask Cumin flowers are very attractive and can be used in beds, borders or fresh or dry bouquets. Cumin seeds are used in cooking as a spice, added to breads, cheeses and meat dishes for their pungent, nutty flavour.
