Tomatoes “Mix Soleil & Gourmandise” tomatoes

Latin name: Solanum lycopersicum
Botanical family: Solanaceae

Description

This blend brings together several varieties of tomato in warm colours: bright red, sunny yellow, sweet orange and tiger red. Each plant produces an abundance of fruit in a variety of shapes and sizes, from the small cocktail to the fleshy tomato. Their mild, sweet or slightly tart flavour makes them an essential ingredient in summer salads, homemade sauces and crunchy snacks. A range that’s as beautiful to look at as it is delicious to eat.

Growing tips

Tomatoes like light soil, rich in organic matter, and full sun. They need warmth, regular watering and good ventilation of the foliage to stay healthy and productive.

Sowing:

  • Sowing period: February to April, under heated cover.
  • Sowing depth: 0.5 to 1 cm.
  • Germination temperature: 20 to 25°C.
  • Germination time: 6 to 10 days.
  • Planting out: After the last frosts, spacing the plants 50 to 70 cm apart.

Harvesting:

  • Harvest period: From July to the first frosts, depending on the earliness of the varieties.

Care instructions

  • Enrich the soil with ripe compost before planting.
  • Mulch to retain moisture and limit the growth of unwanted weeds.
  • Water at the base without wetting the leaves to prevent mildew.
  • Prune or stake according to variety to optimise production.

Culinary possibilities

Ideal for colourful salads, homemade coulis, bruschettas, cold soups (gazpacho) or simply to munch on. Yellow and orange tomatoes add sweetness and originality, while red and tiger tomatoes add a touch of acidity to dishes.

Rotation and association

Do not grow tomatoes after other solanaceous plants (potatoes, aubergines, peppers) to limit the risk of disease. They go well with basil, garlic, onions and carrots.
