Light

Because the concrete staircase was rarely used, and because we felt that its aesthetic was out of keeping with the building, we went looking for a mason to remove it. With no workmen available on a reasonable budget, we ended up hiring a jackhammer to do the job for four hours…

Roughing up and clearing away before the joiners arrived to replace the old double doors with armoured glass.

A new flood of light now bathes the stone staircase. Our stone statue of a monk is now in its place.

And to enhance the view from and towards the interior staircase… the new planter!
