This folding system requires no tape or glue and is ideal for storing your seeds or exchanging them with other gardening enthusiasts.
Materials required
- Paper: Prepare squares of paper in the size of your choice. The larger the square, the more seeds your bag will hold. You can use kraft paper, recycled paper or even magazine pages to add an original touch to your bags.
Steps to make your own
Follow these simple steps to create your own seed sachet:
1. Fold the paper diagonally
Take a square of paper and fold it diagonally to form a triangle. Make sure the edges are aligned and mark the fold by pressing firmly.
2. Fold over the right-hand corner
Position your triangle with the base down and the point up. Take the right-hand corner of the base and fold it towards the opposite side of the triangle, aligning the right-hand edge with the left-hand side of the triangle. Mark the fold.
3. Fold over the left-hand corner
Repeat the operation with the left-hand corner of the base: fold it towards the right-hand side of the triangle, aligning the left-hand edge with the right-hand side. You should obtain a shape resembling a diamond with an opening at the top.
4. Fold over the top tabs
You’ll notice that there are two strips of paper at the top of your fold. Take the first paper strip (the front one) and fold it downwards, sliding it inside the pocket formed by the previous folds. Repeat the operation with the second strip (the one at the back), also folding it down and sliding it into the pocket. This will secure the bag without the need for tape or glue.
5. Open the bag
Gently pull apart the sides of the fold to open the bag. You should have a small pouch ready to receive your seeds.
6. Fill the bag with seeds
Place the seeds you wish to save or exchange inside the sachet. Be careful not to overfill it so that you can close it properly.
7. Closing the sachet
Once the seeds are inside, make sure that the tabs are firmly in place and that the bag is closed properly. If necessary, you can add a small label on the front to indicate the type of seed and the harvest date.
Additional tips
- Personalisation: Decorate your bags with drawings, stickers or stamps to personalise them and make them even more attractive.
- Size variations: Adapt the size of your paper squares according to the quantity and size of seeds you want to keep.
- Eco-friendly materials: For an even more eco-friendly approach, use recycled paper or salvage pages from old books or magazines.
